About Taxmam Advisory
We handle complex or unfamiliar tax issues for fellow tax professionals so they can remain focused on operating their core business
What we are all about
Why we do what we do and for who
At Taxmam Advisory our services were created specifically for tax professionals with clients in the small business market who themselves operate as sole traders or in smaller firms or who otherwise may not have the resources to always be able to effectively or efficiently address the technically complex, unfamiliar, or unexpected tax issues that crop up in their practices.
If you are a tax professional in this market, Taxmam Advisory understand that:
- No one tax professional can be an expert in everything, which if you are a business of one or two means that you will inevitably encounter complex tax issues outside of your specific areas of expertise or practical experience from time to time.
- When unfamiliar or unexpected tax issues come up, dealing with them takes your time and focus away from operating your business and delivering your regular services to your clients.
- If you don’t offer tax advisory or tax consulting services, or otherwise need to refer your clients to larger firms when technically complex or unfamiliar tax issues come up, you may be concerned about the risk of losing your clients to such firms.
- The cost of engaging a tax lawyer or other specialist to assist with your client’s complex tax issues can often be prohibitive.
These are the very challenges our services were designed to overcome, with our purpose being to take the pressure off dealing with complex or out of the ordinary issues for tax professionals like you, so that you can stay focused on and available for operating your core business.
What we do
Taxmam Advisory provides reliable tax technical advice and practical assistance to fellow tax professionals when they encounter complex or unfamiliar issues in managing the tax affairs of their own clients.
Our services are provided at a competitive and consistent price and, whilst we offer the option of providing our services directly to the taxpayer when preferred, we guarantee not to otherwise provide services directly to the clients of our customers.
Our primary services are:
- Comprehensive written advice on the eligibility for and application of the Small Business CGT Concessions (our SBCGT Advice service).
- Assistance responding to ATO technical positions during audits or for the purpose of lodging objections (our ATO Compliance Assist service).
- Technical assistance preparing ATO private binding ruling requests (Our ATO Rulings Assist service).
These primary services are provided under our fixed fee pricing models and represent what we have found to be the areas that tax professionals with clients in the small business market most often seek assistance with.
We also provide written tax advice or other technical or practical assistance beyond the scope of our primary services (our General Advice service) and have extensive technical expertise and practical experience in most areas of Commonwealth tax legislation relevant to taxpayers in the small business market.
See our services page for more details on the services we offer.
Why Choose Us
Our fit for purpose skills and experience
The services Taxmam Advisory delivers are backed by wide-ranging tax technical expertise and extensive professional experience in both providing tax advice and undertaking tax compliance activities.
We also draw on a comprehensive first-hand understanding of ATO processes, procedures and products, and an established record of providing tax advisory services that effectively address the needs of fellow tax professionals specifically.
At Taxmam Advisory we genuinely enjoy dealing with unresolved tax issues and breaking down and simply explaining complex concepts. It’s what we do best, and by using these strengths to assist other tax professionals we help them remain focused on what they do best.
Our competitive and consistent pricing
Taxmam Advisory offers a competitively priced alternative to comparable advice and services from larger advisory firms, tax lawyers, and other relevant tax specialists.
Our fee structures were established with the intention of providing consistent and reliable pricing in addition to being a more affordable option.
Our primary services are provided under our fixed fee pricing models, meaning that the same fee will always be charged for the standard deliverable for the relevant service rather than our services being charged at an hourly rate or on some other variable basis.
Advice and other services beyond the scope of our fixed fee pricing models are quoted based on the number and complexity of the tax issues to be addressed rather than on an hourly rate.
We want to do business with you not your clients
We provide our tax advisory services primarily to other tax professionals, and we don’t offer mainstream tax agent or BAS agent services such as income tax return or activity statement lodgements to the general public. We exist to assist tax professionals servicing the small business market, and intentionally do not offer services that would put us in competition with them.
We generally offer tax professionals the flexibility to choose whether they would like the engagement agreement for the services we provide to be between Taxmam Advisory and them or Taxmam Advisory and their client, but we guarantee that Taxmam Advisory will not otherwise provide services directly to that client.

Our story
Taxmam Advisory was founded by Katy Nesbitt, an experienced senior tax and super professional with 13+ years of diverse practical experience in both advice and compliance settings.
Katy holds a Master of Taxation, is a Chartered Tax Adviser, and has received recognition for her reputation as a trusted technical adviser, including as an inaugural winner of the ATO Tax Technical Excellence Award in 2020.
Much of Katy’s experience was gained at the ATO, including as a Director in the Private Wealth business area where she led a team undertaking complex compliance and assurance case work holistically assessing the tax affairs of Australia’s wealthiest privately owned groups.
Katy has a proven track record in interpreting and applying a wide range of tax and super laws to deliver reliable and practical expert advice for a variety of stakeholders and purposes, and a comprehensive working knowledge of most key areas of Commonwealth tax law, with specialisations in CGT (including the Small Business CGT Concessions), GST, and administrative (shortfall) penalties in particular.
Katy’s professional tax experience is backed by a working knowledge of business environments, transactions, and processes gained from an early career of over a decade in accounting, accounts payable / receivable, payroll, and bookkeeping / BAS agent roles.
Whilst she has had a diverse career as a tax professional to date, Katy is most in her element when investigating an unanswered tax question or unresolved tax issue or helping others to understand something about tax which they previously did not. Coupled with her technical expertise, practical knowledge of ATO products and processes, and tax advisory experience, this uniquely places Katy to best deliver and oversee the services offered by Taxmam Advisory.
